Binns Breaks volume 3

cover of Binns Breaks volume 3 For the third time I’m writing with news of another ‘less ambitious’ project: an all-new Binns Breaks (BB3) and a 28-page Mountain Magic supplement - 100 pages of varied touring ideas, in both France and Britain, from two-day breaks to trips lasting one to two weeks; my Bon appétit glossary; plus my BB3 cover pencil drawings, one French, one British, printed on two pieces of A5-sized, 170gsm art paper – ideal for framing and both something to remember me by.
This rapport qualité-prix ‘BB3 Package’, once again, costs £5 (post, packing and cheque clearing costs included) and will be available in November. If you have BB1 and BB2 please note BB3 has a contents index for all three.
My guess at the likely sale of BB2 (2000 copies) was off target. The Lauréat 2000 free aperitif offer was too tempting. I had to reprint twice (costly mistakes!), printing 4,000 copies in total. I still have 500 copies unsold.
I’m printing 3,000 copies of BB3 and no more. I’m guessing I’ll sell 2,500 copies of the ‘BB3 Package’ offer. The other 500 copies of BB3 will be used for a first come, first served ‘Special Deal’: BB3/Mountain Magic/the two drawings/BB2/Lauréat 2000 and Bon appétit, all for £7 (including postage and packing of over £1); a total of 200 pages of super material, with the free aperitifs offer again available – all of which will make a great Christmas present for your friends.
I’m hoping a majority of you will order the ‘BB3 Package’ for yourselves; any additional copies for friends will cost £4 each. ‘Special Deal’ orders will be posted in separate envelopes; if you send me the recipients’ addresses I’ll send the contents direct, saving you postage and packing costs.
I cannot say when I shall write to you again. The first reason is that I have no more fresh material to hand. The second is that complications persist with my prostate cancer; these have prevented me from going ahead with ‘radical’ treatments. I’ve been having hormone therapy for two years and I can only hope that this, together with my ‘Good Prostate (and Breast) Health’ eating régime, will continue to contain the cancerous cells.
Finally, a big, big thank you, and an even bigger one from Carol, to the 526 readers who sent £2.50, or more, for RSC. All copies were sold and £1,577.50 was raised for the 78 Squadron Remembrance Corner in All Saints Church at Bubwith, North Yorkshire: £827.50 for an altar table and Roll of Honour (with the names of 978 aircrew who lost their lives); £500 for All Saints’ funds, to help maintain the church; and £250 for a model of Breighton ‘aerodrome’ as it was in 1939-45. This is on display with squadron artefacts at the ‘Aviation Museum’ in the airfield clubhouse. Follow signs from Bubwith.
Villagers, 78 Squadron aircrew, and those who lost loved ones, including Carol and her family, are looking forward impatiently to the consecration of the altar table in 2002 by the Bishop of Selby. If any of you would like to attend the consecration service please drop me a line and I will send you details once arrangements are finalised. I’m hoping many of you will be able to come.
Thank you for all your loyal past support. Keep well. Enjoy life!
